Resource Pack on Entrepreneurship and Social Entrepreneurship Education


           

The AHEAD Resource pack provides the evidence base and the necessary background knowledge to allow partner universities from Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda to devise a suitable framework for developing, organizing and measuring the impact of entrepreneurship education and social entrepreneurship education in particular. The Resource Pack promotes the following basic principles:

  • Preference for action learning over traditional in-class learning
  • Use of case studies and onsite visits to community social enterprises and local enterprises
  • Involvement of entrepreneurs and practitioners with experience in (social) entrepreneurship (including alumni) as guest teaching staff and promotion of mobility of faculty and researchers between the higher education sector and business
  • Attention to the training of faculty and developing the incentive structure to promote the integration of entrepreneurship into teaching
  • Attention to measuring the impact of entrepreneurship education
  • Focus on the national and local contexts

The Resource pack comprises of the following five sections:

Section.1: 

Delivery of teaching/training including: standard stand-alone non-compulsory courses, specialized courses within dedicated structures such as Entrepreneurship Centres or Innovation Labs; mainstreaming of social entrepreneurship (alongside entrepreneurship) into many or all subjects/programmes taught at the university and Interdisciplinary approaches to (social) entrepreneurship education.

Section.2: 

Options for promoting the mobility of faculty and researchers between the higher education sector and business and integrating stakeholders into (social) entrepreneurship education (design and delivery).

Section.3: 

Indicative new methods that could be applied: Human-centred Design, Design Thinking, Social Innovation, Customer Development Process.

Section.4: 

Ideas about discussions and activities that could support teaching and training.

Section.5: 

Measuring the impact of (social) entrepreneurship education (evidence base from the EU, developed approaches).
